MPD Prepares for 2013 Citizens Police Aacademy Class

CPA Pic 2

The Morristown Police Department is preparing for its 17th Citizen’s Police Academy Class.  The class will start April 30, 2013 and end June 4, 2013. Classes will be held at the Police Department on each Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.

The CPA is a six-week course designed to teach the general public the tactics and techniques used by MPD officers.  Participants will ride along with officers to see how these skills are used daily by police.  The course also includes a tour of the Emergency 911 Dispatch Center and Hamblen County jail facility.

Chief Overholt states,”We believe that allowing citizens to take an inside look at the police department gives them a better picture of the challenges the officers face daily.  It also enhances their understanding of the need for citizens and the police to work together to keep the community safe.”

Graduates of this course are also able to join the CPA Alumni Association which keeps graduates in touch with the department and gives them the opportunity to volunteer their time and ride along more often, if they wish.
