Tickets / CitationsQ: How do I satisfy a citation?

A: You have various options in order to satisfy a citation.
1.Pay the citation prior to your court date to avoid court fees and court appearance.

2.  You may appear in court and contest the violation.

3. You may attend a driver improvement program for dismissal upon payment of your citation and if you have not attended a driver improvement program within the last five (5) years.  This Court does not accept an on-line driver improvement program.  This may be accomplished at any time prior to your court date.
4. Citations given for light law violations, muffler violations, no driver’s license and violation of registration may be dismissed prior to your court date upon presenting to the Morristown Police Department proof the light or muffler has been repaired or registration or driver’s license has been obtained. A $25 administrative fee will be applied.
5. If you receive a citation for Violation of Financial Responsibility and had insurance on the date you must appear in court on your court date for dismissal. If you did not have insurance on the date you received the citation, you must pay the citation.

Q: How do I attend the driver improvement program?

A: The driver improvement program is available to those who possess a valid driver’s license, and who have not attended the class in the past 5 years. To register for class, you must pay the fine at the cashier’s office and sign up in person at the Morristown Police Department prior to your court date.

Please note: If you have a commercial drivers license you are not eligible for defensive driving school.

In addition to the fine, the cost of attending class is $40.00; however, once you have completed the class your citation will be dismissed.

Q: Will points be assessed against my license?

A: The Tennessee Department of Safety will assess points against your license for moving violations. You may obtain this information at the following ways: 1. at the following website http://www.state.tn.us/safety/values.htm 2. contacting your nearest drivers license office.
3. contacting the Department of Safety at (615)741-3954.

Q: What happens if I don’t satisfy my citation?

A: If the citation is not paid, your driving privileges will be suspended by the Tennessee Department of Safety. If you receive a citation in Tennessee against your out of state license, your state may suspend your driver’s license upon notification that your ticket is outstanding.


RedFlex Citation


If you have received a citation from RedFlex (Red Light Camera Citation), you may pay the citation (Cash or Check Only) at the City Center at the Cashier’s Office, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.


If you wish to have a hearing for the citation, please complete the bottom form you receive from RedFlex and mail it to the Morristown Police Department.


Please note that a RedFlex citation does not add points to your driving record.


Accident ReportsQ: How do I obtain a copy of an accident report?

A: You may obtain a copy of an accident report by either appearing in person at the Morristown City Center, or at the website, www.docview.us.com

If you show up in person, you must provide us with the following information: 

  • Name of one of the drivers involved (not the insured/owner’s name).
  • Date of the accident.
  • (Optional) – Location of the accident.

Q: How do I get a report if the accident was investigated by the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Department or the Tennessee Highway Patrol?

Offense / Incident ReportsQ: How do I obtain a copy of an offense or incident report?

A: Offense and incident reports may be obtained at no charge to the victim by either appearing in person, or by mailing your request to:

License Plates, Titles, and RegistrationThe Morristown Police Department does not issue License Plates, Titles, or Vehicle Registration. You may obtain these items at the Hamblen County Clerk’s Office, located at 511 W. Second North Street, Morristown, TN 37814. The phone number is (423) 586-1993.

Criminal HistoryTo obtain a copy of a local (Morrristown City limits only) criminal or arrest history, appear in person with your photo ID and the date of birth of the person you are inquiring about. There is a $10.00 fee for a criminal or arrest history, and it will only include charges and arrests from within the City of Morristown.
