The GIS (Geographic Information Systems) department emphasizes supplying mapping data to many city departments including Police, Fire, Public Works, Finance, Inspections, Engineering, Planning and the Tax Office. In addition to mapping services, the GIS department monitors addressing within the city and verifies accuracy with 911 emergency services.

The GIS department continues to partner with Morristown Utility Systems and Hamblen County government to receive the new color Orthoimagery photography. The upgrade to color orthos has greatly improved the usefulness of maps by providing clearer visuals from higher resolution.
