The Fire Marshal and his office are responsible for providing fire code enforcement, educating citizens about fire and life safety, inspecting buildings, maintaining files and records, and overseeing arson investigations. Working closely with other state and local inspectors, the Fire Marshal reviews building plans for compliance with not only fire codes, but other life-safety codes as well. The Fire Marshal then inspects projects during construction for compliance and notifies builder or any necessary changes. Inspections of existing occupancies is also an on-going process, checking such elements as emergency lighting, exit corridors, fire control systems and any other life-safety concerns that might affect the public’s right to safety.
