The Morristown Police Department has seen an increase in reports of individuals passing counterfeit $100 bills.
The fake bills which are being passed say “For Motion Picture Use Only” on the upper right corner of the front of the bill and across the top of the back as shown in the photos below. It also states that the note is not legal tender.
Currently, the counterfeit $100’s serial numbers all end in 8679 though this may not always be the case.
During our investigation, we learned that bills similar to this have been passed throughout the country.
The MPD encourages all citizens and businesses to pay close attention during transactions involving $100 bills. The bills which have currently been turned over to our investigators can be detected as counterfeit by using a counterfeit currency detector pen and by close inspection for inconsistent markings.
