MPD Seizes Marijuana and Cash

MPD SEIZES MARIJUANA AND CASH

Patrol officers of the Morristown Police Department respond to a call of suspicious activity early Monday morning at a hotel on East Andrew Johnson Highway.  Officers discovered six males and one female in a room in which they detected a strong marijuana odor.  After speaking with the occupants and conducting a search, the officers discovered jars and bags containing approximately 4.5 pounds of marijuana.  Three of the individuals were arrested on drug charges.  Two of the arrested were carrying a total of more than $4,000 in cash.

Zachariah Hatch, 23, of Washington; Michael Nicholson, 22, of California; and Ashlyn Reed, 23, of Morristown were all charged with Delivery, Sale, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

None of the arrested claimed to be working and the female stated that they had all been working on a marijuana grow farm in California.  She alleged being paid wages in the form of marijuana and had hitchhiked across country.

The street value of the seized marijuana is estimated to be over $4,500.  The individuals were incarcerated in the Hamblen County Jail.
