About The Tree Board The objective of the Morristown Tree Board is to help citizens make informed decisions about the preservation, planting and care of trees within our community. Responsibilities include developing, reviewing and recommending policies that carry out the intent of the Morristown Tree Ordinance, coordinating publicity concerning trees and tree programs, providing assistance and information to the public, coordinating donations of trees or money to purchase trees, and to hear citizens concerns regarding tree problems during scheduled meetings. The Tree Board meets at 11:30 AM on the second Wednesday of the month in the Community Room at the Morristown City Center. The board may not meet every month. For more information on the next scheduled meeting, please contact the Department of Community Development at (423) 585-4624.

Arbor Day
Arbor Day is an annual observance that celebrates the role of trees in our lives and promotes tree planting and care. As a formal holiday, it was first observed in 1872 in Nebraska. Since then, Arbor Day celebrations have spread across America and around the world. Morristown held it's first Arbor Day celebration on April 4, 2003 and hosted the Tennessee State Arbor Day on March 7, 2008. Legacy Trees
The Morristown Tree Board, in cooperation with Keep Morristown Hamblen Beautiful, developed the Legacy Tree program in which loved ones may be honored and remembered by sponsoring a tree planting in one of the city's parks. Legacy Trees include a sign identifying the tree species and the person being honored by the donation, which is tax deductible. Please review the Legacy Tree Brochure or explore the existing Legacy Tree Directory. |

Trees for the City
Trees for the City is a new publication from the Department of Community Development and the Morristown Tree Board. It is designed to encourage better tree planting and care practices and to act as a guide for species selection. Also learn why you should NEVER top a tree. |

Turkey Creek Arboretum
The Tree Board continues to work toward certification of an arboretum within Fred Miller Park. Some signage is already in place, but there are corrections needed to become certified. The goal is to provide visitors with an educational opportunity while enjoying the park. |
