MPD'S NEW ICAC INVESTIGATOR

Morristown Police Department’s Officer Robert Jacobs is the MPD’s new full-time Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Investigator.  Officer Jacobs’ was assigned on January 21, 2016.  He has spent the last 3 years as a patrolman.

The MPD ICAC Unit began as a sub-grantee of the Knoxville Police Department’s ICAC Unit and a part of the Tennessee Regional ICAC Task Force.  Officer Jacobs’ duties as an ICAC Investigator are to investigate complaints of online child sexual predators, to conduct proactive covert online operations in which investigators respond to communication from possible sexual predators and from people who traffic child pornography and he will act as a local resource for community education and prevention of these types of crimes.  The MPD’s ICAC Unit has three additional part-time investigators; the unit is supervised by Detective Captain Christian Newman.

In 2015, the ICAC Unit completed the following extremely time consuming computer exams: 19 hard drives, 193 other exams including cell phones, flash drives, CD/DVDs, etc.  During 2015, the unit conducted 5 search warrants including both Federal and State.
