The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Morristown by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement recognizes a community for governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

The Award of Financial Reporting Achievement has been presented to the Finance Department, headed by Larry Clark, who was responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR. Mayor Gary Chesney said “we are very proud of the Finance team. Their work strengthens our organization and the community as a whole.”

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

This is the second year in a row that the City has received the GFOA audit award. The City has also received the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for four years. City Administrator Tony Cox praised both the Clark and the audit team of Craine, Thompson and Jones for their excellent work in preparation of the audit report. Cox said “our staff sets high standards for performance. I hope that residents of Morristown feel confident that the City’s financial management meets the highest expectations.”
