MPD Explosive Ordinance Detection Unit Participates in ATF Explosives Training

The Morristown Police Department (MPD) Explosive Ordinance Detection Unit participated in an Alcohol Tobacco Firearms (ATF) Explosives training on July 26, 2018.  The training was held at the Knox county training facility.

Instructors for the training are from the ATF’s National Center for Explosives Training and Research (NCETR).  The center is based in Huntsville, AL.  The event, sponsored by The International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators (IABTI), allowed units in the region to train on similar techniques together in the event of a real life incident where procedures will be seamless.

MPD EOD Commander Chris Blair stated, “I appreciate the opportunity that was given to us by the ATF to train with other squads around the region.  Keeping relationships with these squads is vital to continue success when a real life incident occurs.”  Blair would also like to have future meetings with surrounding squads for information sharing on real life events and how they were handled.
