In Remembrance of Det. Sgt. Al Herrera

 

Sgt. Al HerreraWith great sadness the Morristown Police Department says goodbye to Detective Sergeant Alfonso “Al” Herrera who passed away this morning after an extended illness. Det. Sgt. Herrera served the citizens of Morristown for more than 24 years with the MPD. He served as a patrol officer, special response team operator, narcotics agent, general assignment investigator and investigations supervisor.

Det. Sgt. Herrera was born in Coyoacán, Mexico and became a citizen of the United States on November 5, 1992. He served as a liaison between the police and the Latino community.

Det. Sgt. Herrera received several commendations throughout his career to include recognition from the Federal Bureau of Investigations for his work during the large-scale narcotics investigation “Final Harvest”. His role in the investigation was cited as critical to the operation’s success.

MPD Chief Roger Overholt stated, “Al was a valuable asset to his community and took his work very seriously, yet he carried out his work with compassion. He always had a warm smile and ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Our MPD family will greatly miss him.”
